Here’s a list of technical changes that may be important for technical players to know, as it might affect your farms or automated contraptions. Some of the features have been modified for optimization, quality-of-life or because we simply think it makes for better gameplay.
Anvils
Anvils don’t increase the XP cost when repairing or renaming an item, and the maximum XP cost never goes above 39 levels. This means Mending isn’t as necessary as in vanilla, since there’s no upper limit on how many times you can repair an item.
Villager trading
Villager trading uses Villager Trade Rebalance, so you have to go to different biomes to get different trades.
Nether portals
Nether portals can be activated in any size and shape you want, not just rectangular.
Sand
Sand can be renewed by killing Husks (desert zombies), which now also spawn in Desert Temples.
Endermen
Endermen cannot pick up blocks.
Pets
Pets cannot be hurt by their owner or other players the pet trusts. As the owner, you can choose which other players the pet should trust by sneaking and right-clicking the pet. If a pet trusts you, you can decide whether it should sit or stand, and the pet will never attack you.
Parrots
Parrots can be bred and healed with seeds.
Leads
Tamed pets that are standing and leashed animals (or boats and everything they contain) will follow the player through portals.
Leads can also be leashed from fences to fences, though this is a purely decorative change.
Faster minecarts
Minecarts have had their speed increased from 8 blocks/second to 40 blocks/second. Using ice, packed ice or blue ice increases the speed by 5, 10 and 20 blocks/second respectively. If you need the old mechanics, you can convert minecarts into “Slowcarts” by placing them alone in a crafting grid.
